Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

1. What I need to do if I/we want assistance in our family issues?
A: Contact us by emailing rahmaa.institute@gmail.com with your particulars – Name, Phone number, city that you live in, Country if outside of US, and outline of the issues. (Please fill out Assistance Request l form attached) Depending on the case load someone from our institute will respond to you within 2 to 5 business days.

2. What if my issue is urgent and I need help quickly?
A: Mention it in your email and we will prioritize your request.

3. What if my spouse does not agree to take part?
A: This is an issue faced by many. We recommend that you try it yourself and ask your spouse to listen in the conversation. We find that after the first couple of sessions when they see the benefit they agree to join in.

4. How much does it cost?
A. $50 per session. Each session is 50 min to an hour long. People can pay less according to whatever they can afford.

5. I want to donate to you cause, but will my donation be tax exempt?
A. Rahmaa Institute is 501(c)(3) Tax exempt organization so all donations made to us are tax exempt. Tax receipt for your donations will be issued in January for the end of the year donations.

6. What are the funds used for?
A: We are trying to build an organization that will build strong families in the Muslim world. All funds at this time go towards the development of workshops and programs, website maintenance and development. Following are a few of the programs we are currently working on:
• Anger Management
• Pre-Marital counseling
• Domestic violence prevention
• Couple’s retreat
• Imams, Community Leaders and counselors training
• Parenting in the West
• Teenage issues

7. How long does it take to resolve a marriage issue?
A: It depends on the seriousness of the issues. It also depends upon the parties on how serious they are in working at resolving the problem. For minor issues it may take from 3 to 10 sessions, others take more sessions to come to amicable resolution

8. What is the length of each session?
A. Each session is 50 minuets in length

9. How effective is long distance audio or video counseling as compared to the face to face counseling.
A: Face to face counseling has its benefits where the counselor can watch the emotions and body language; however long distance counseling using audio/video conferencing also has its own benefits. Many couples avoid counseling just to protect their name and integrity within the community they live in, to avoid gossip. In long distance sessions the couples and family do not have this issue and we find them discussing their issues openly.

10. What is your counseling background?
A. We have been assisting family and couples resolve their issues for over 30 years based on Quran and Sunnah. We have helped helped many couples and families over the years alhamdullilah.. I am NOT a certified counselor.

11. What if we don’t want to proceed? Can we stop counseling at any time?
A: You can stop the sessions at any time just by sending an email or a phone message.

12. Do we need to sign any agreement?
A: Yes, please read and sign the mediation agreement

13. Can we audio tape the sessions?
A: No, unless you have out lined clear intention why you want to audio/video tape the sessions and obtain written signed consent from all parties including the counselor.

14. Will the discussion be kept confidential?
A: Yes, all sessions and discussions are kept confidential. Rahmaa institute however may use part or all of the information for research or educational purposes without using real names, location or other information that may reveal the identity of any party.

15. Would Rahmaa Institute talk to my lawyer supporting my legal case?
A. Absolutely not. Being a religious based organization Rahmaa Institute does not get involved in any legal cases in favor or against any party. Our goals are crystal clear that we support and help in strengthening family bond. Issues discussed with us are strictly confidential and is not disclosed to anyone.

16. Does Rahmaa Institute provides assistance in other aspects like lawyers, or financial or medical assistance or settlement for displaced person?
A: No, we only provide counseling to empower family and individuals. For all other please check your local support system

17. Do you deal with domestic violence cases?
A: We do not deal with the domestic violence cases directly. We only provide educational workshop for the victims and perpetrators. Our domestic violence prevention workshop include anger management and has helped many understand and how to deal with their anger issues. Please contact local domestic violence support system if you need help.
